My name is Alyssa Nilemo and I’m a fourth generation Coloradan who grew up in Jefferson County. My family arrived here with the railroad and laid down roots to become farmers in the San Luis Valley. Through the generations we have shared a deep love of and respect for our beautiful home state.
I spent my early career in the care industry working in early childhood education, hospice care and disability services. Even when I changed career paths into government administration I never lost sight of the people who make up the community and the importance of serving them. My time working in a City Manager's Office as an Aide and for the State of Colorado in higher education has informed my belief in the importance of local governance. I know from experience that the government is meant to serve the community, and that this gets lost when we don’t put people before politics, distracting us from the local issues.
A longtime unaffiliated voter I care about who is going to do the work and lead effectively in our district. Seeing families struggle to afford childcare, working families pulling doubles to try and gain access to higher education and our elders getting lost in the healthcare system led me to return to school in 2018 to pursue a degree in Political Science. I obtained my second degree from Metro State University with distinctions. I ran my first congressional campaign in 2019. And then in 2022 I registered as a Democrat and became involved in both the local and state party. I wanted to better serve my community and I believe my background in public administration and politics will empower me to
fight for the needs of all residents living in HD44.
I moved to Douglas County almost a decade ago when I fell in love with my husband.
Together we are building our home and family in Parker.
Serving as a long time board member of the Asian Chamber of Commerce Alyssa has seen the power of small business to change lives and communities and knows we need to level the playing field so they can succeed.
In her current work Alyssa leads teams at the Auraria Campus to find sustainable profit streams so that the State can continue to support work in higher education, the performing arts and community events.
Alyssa served for 6 years as the Sunday School Superintendent at her childhood church. She is also a proud alum of both the Sakura Foundation's Mirai Generation Leadership Program and the U.S. Japan Council Emerging Leaders Program. In 2022 she was honored to be awarded the Asian Hero of Colorado Award.
Alyssa worked in Early Childhood Education while pursuing her first degree in English. Later she served in the Office of Student Access Services at Arapahoe Community College. Currently she works for the Auraria Higher Education Center and as the Executive Director of the Asian Chamber Foundation of Colorado, which works to help first generation and nontraditional under-grads.
